Headbands of Hope: How One College Student Refused to Wait to Make a Difference – Jess Ekstrom
Who says an internship can’t change your life? During the summer of her junior year, Jess Ekstrom worked for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. As she interacted with children facing life-threatening illnesses, she discovered that young girls loved to wear headbands instead of wigs after losing their hair to chemotherapy. Armed with inspiration to do good beyond her internships, she soon after founded Headbands of Hope.
Headbands of Hope creates fun, fashionable headbands, and for every headband purchased, one is given to a girl with cancer. Since launching the organization in 2012, HOH has been featured on The Today Show, Seventeen Magazine, Forbes, Entrepreneur.com and more. Most importantly, Headbands of Hope has donated headbands to every single children’s hospital in the United States. Jess is living proof that a college student with an amazing idea and a willingness to act on it need not wait.

Calm Your Mind & Awaken Your Body Through Yoga/Breath Practice – Cheryl Passel
Yoga is an extremely potent agent of transformation, and not simply a form of exercise. The first part of this class will emphasize the poses (asanas) combined with proper breathing (pranayama), inner awareness and alignment. The second half of the class will focus on slow stretches and a short meditation with the intention of promoting relaxation.

Meditation for Leaders – Michael Ketterhagen - SESSION FILLED
Leaders today need to make rapid decisions that are good for themselves and for everyone else with whom they work. They also need to know how to effectively manage all the stress that enters their life. This session will focus on the preparatory actions for an effective meditation practice and will teach a ten-minute mediation practice that will train the mind and relax the body, breath, and mind.
Shared Leadership: Using Emotional Intelligence as a Tool for Self-Awareness – Beverly Jenkins - SESSION FILLED

Emotional Intelligence is the ability to identify, understand and manage emotions. Many theorists conclude that EQ can be more important than IQ. These traits are not learned in school, but, they are essential to leadership in both our professional and personal lives. In this workshop you will learn the fundamentals of emotional intelligence and how this information can help you be a better leader. You will also take a quiz to determine your current level of emotional intelligence and then work on an action plan to further your development in this area.
Quiet Leadership: You don'y have to make a splash to make a difference – Kim Mueller
Do you feel like you are not outgoing enough or too quiet to be a leader? Do you feel like you cannot be a leader? You don’t have to make a splash to be a leader. You can make a difference!
In this workshop, participants discover “quiet” leadership skills useful in every-day situations. Participants develop insight and specific strategies to make a difference in the lives of those around them.
Kim Mueller serves as the nursing learning specialist for Marian University where she teaches nursing students to harness specific strategies toward meeting their academic and life goals.
