Help! The printer is not printing!
If the printer has a screen, is there any error messages displayed and if so, what does it say?
Is the network cable plugged in?
If the cable is plugged in, can you see any lights flashing on the network card? If no lights, then the card is not working correctly or there is no network connection. If this occurs, please contact the HelpDesk.
If the lights are flashing, disconnect the network cable and turn the printer off. Leave the printer off for a few seconds and plug the network cable back in. Turn the printer back on and see if it will print. If not, please contact the HelpDesk
Help! There's a paper jam!
If the printer has a screen, and you follow the directions on the screen, does it fix the problem?
If not, start by taking each tray out, one at a time and check to see if there is any paper stuck above or behind where the tray was.
If paper is found, open the top door and remove the toner cartridge. Be sure to cover the cartridge with a sheet of paper so that it is not destroyed by light or direct sunlight. Once the cartridge is out, check to see if there are any sheets or pieces of paper stuck inside the printer. If there is paper in there, please pull it out gently. If the paper will not move, please do not force it. Leave the paper in there contact the HelpDesk.
Help! The printer is out of toner!
If the printer is out of toner and you contact the HelpDesk during normal business hours (Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.), a student technician will deliver the toner.
If you call after normal business hours, contact the HelpDesk and the toner will be delivered during the next business day.
Help! The printer is not picking up any paper!
Check all trays to ensure that there is paper in each tray.
Remove each tray carefully to ensure that there is nothing blocking the rollers that pick up the paper.
Check the rollers to see if they are worn (the rollers will be smooth with no ridges if they are worn). If they are worn, notify the HelpDesk and someone will change the rollers during the next business day.
Help! The printer is picking up too much paper!
Check all trays to see what the paper level is. Sometimes when a tray is almost empty, it will cause more than one sheet to be picked up.
Remove each tray carefully and check the rollers. The wear of the rollers will depend on how well the rollers pick up paper. If the rollers are smooth with no ridges, notify the HelpDesk and someone will change the rollers during the next business day.
If the rollers are okay, try a different ream of paper. Sometimes the humidity of the room will cause the paper to stick together which then causes more than one sheet to be picked up.
If none of the steps above fix the problem, notify the HelpDesk and someone will perform maintenance on the printer during the next business day.
