Location and Hours of Availability

The Marian University Counseling Center is located on the lower level in Regina Hall, Room 015.

We are open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm whenever the campus is open.

Making an Appointment

Counseling services with a licensed professional counselor are available at no additional cost to currently enrolled Marian students in the following formats:

  1. In-Person Services
    • This is the traditional format where students come to meet with a counselor in the Counseling Center.
    • The Counseling Center adheres to all of Marian University’s COVID-19 precautions, as applicable.
  2. Telehealth Services
    • This format uses a confidential online portal that students can access via a laptop or smartphone.
    • Due to licensing laws, Telehealth Services are only available for students when they are residing in Wisconsin.

Appointments can be made in several ways:

You will be asked to complete some paperwork before your first appointment each academic year.  These forms will be sent to your Marian email once you have scheduled an appointment, and can be filled out electronically.

Why Students Use Our Services

Students come to the Counseling Center to talk about a wide variety of topics, including:

Confidentiality

Marian University Counseling Center observes confidentiality as required by Wisconsin state law and by the American Counseling Association’s (ACA) Code of Ethics.

All interactions with the Counseling Center are confidential. Counseling records do not become part of any academic, educational, or job placement file. Your records are stored in a secure location, accessed only by counseling staff, and maintained until shredded seven years after the closing date.

Students may request in writing that their records be released to designated people.

For safety reasons, information may also be released if a mental health crisis emerges that puts you or others at risk.

Because email is not a secure form of communication we ask that you do not use email to discuss personal counseling issues. Emails are not consistently monitored when the Counseling Center is closed, making them inappropriate for use in crisis situations. If you need to discuss a counseling concern, please do so in person or via telephone.

Signs of Distress

While it is not always easy to recognize the signs of emotional or psychological distress, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) suggests watching for these warning signs:

Free online screenings are available if you want to see if professional services might be recommended for you or someone you care about. These screenings are anonymous and only take a couple of minutes to complete.

Area Resources

The Counseling Center can also help with referrals to outside resources. Students should check with their insurance plans to determine where behavioral health services are covered.
